Southern England Calf Show

Breeders came from all over the south to take part in the Inaugural Southern England Clubs Calf show, held at Bristol Sales Centre on 11th November.19 Herds, entered 65 calves, and the judge, Alastair Fraser, of the Idvies Herd at Forfar, praised the good standard of stock and stockmanship which was evident from the exceptional quality of turnout.

Mr Fraser chose as his Overall Champion, the male Champion, Rull Evitus F052, from Edward and Claire Jones at Cullompton. "My Champion is a good example of the present day needs of the market. Showing good growth potential, flatback and good feet. We will hear more of him in the future", said Mr Fraser. The January born bull was sired by Rawburn Transformer and out of a Dalrene Cruz sired dam.The Jones took another first with a March born, Blelack Blacksmith Y291 sired bull, Rull Baron F057.

Lockerley Hall Farm, from Romsey had a successful day, taking the Reserve Overall and Reserve Male Champion, Female Champion, Reserve Female Champion, and the Gaston Wood Trophy for the Best Calf from a South East Club Member. The Reserve Overall and Reserve Male Champion went to Lockerley Lancelot F630. A March born calf, sired by Idvies Euris B112, out of a Nightingale Papa A069 sired dam. The Female Champion went to Lockerley Kim F599. This February born heifer, was also sired by Idvies Euris B112 and out of Halbeath Kim B035. The Reserve Female Champion was the March born Lockerley Kind Princess F638. This time, sired by Idvies Jester Eric A057.

Making the journey from Northampton were Alex & Alastair McLaren, who gained a first prize rosette with Aynho Ross Eric E355. This October born bull was sired by Creeslea Foden C002. The South East Club Officers had a good day, both Chairman
and Secretary gaining first prizes. Chairman, Rosan Porter from Andover, won with an October born heifer, Gaston Wood Duchess E112, sired by Rock N D Ambush. Secretary, Mike Spooner from Henley on Thames achieved his first prize in one of the steer classes. But the Champion steer went to Humphrey, shown by an up and coming young stockman, Will Ives on behalf of his father. This steer was September born and sired by Warrenho Reporter C103.
