EVENTS FOR 2009.

ROSEMEAD HERD WALK, 7th June 2009.

The coach left Exeter at 5.30 am, very early indeed if you had been at Royal Cornwall for the previous 4 days, which may have accounted for our lower than usual numbers. But 15 Members of our Club were not deterred and made the worthwhile journey to visit Angus Stovold's Rosemead herd in Surrey. The herd was established in 1936 so it was really interesting to see how the cattle had evolved through the years and I was interested in seeing the latest acquisition from Perth. The herd didn't disappoint and we were treated to a fantastic day. We were able to quiz Angus and his herdsman Tom, and see the show team destined for the Royal and The National Angus Show at Newbury. We were joined by the South East Club which made for a very sociable and enjoyable day. A big thank you to Angus and his family who fed us royally on his home reared beef and we were also able to sample some local beer and elderflower cordial which finished the day off perfectly.

FARM VISIT TO DUDLEY & STUART LUXTON'S ANGUS AND COMMERCIAL HERDS & FARMER LUXTONS BUTCHER SHOP.

Rain at the start of the day didn't deter a large number of members from attending the farm visit by kind permission of Dudley Luxton and his family. 40 Members enjoyed fantastic hospitality on the lawn in the sunshine, where the Luxton Family had gone to great lengths with a BBQ. The Luxton's are new to Angus, only starting their pedigree herd 2 years ago. The Angus are run along side pedigree Limousins and commercial cows, but an Angus bull has been used for a number of years. The Luxton's have recently opened up a Butchers shop on the outskirts of town and seem to be doing well. It was a really interesting to look around the shop and chiller unit and also to see fantastic bunches of steers that will end up there.
A big thank you to the Luxton's for making us feel so welcome.
