South West Of England Open Day at The Rull Herd.

The weather was kind to us for the Open Day held at The Rull Herd by kind permission of Ed & Claire Jones and their family at Cullompton in Devon. The sun shone as we took in the delights of the Rull cattle grazing in the grass. The Jones has have had a lot of success on the show circuit and at sales and it was really interesting to see what genetics have been used and are going to use in the future. It was then back to the shed where the young stock were all tied and venerable stockman and Show man extraordinaire Colin Hutchings with the help of free lance stockman Andrew Hughes who turns out the Rull cattle, gave a demonstration on how to clip and turn out an animal and a few people tried their hand. (It was a bit like a YDP day for slightly older people!!)

As per usual we were treated to a fabulous lunch provided by the Jones Family where no one left hungry! It was a great social occasion where Members old and new chatted away. After lunch we did some stock judging. Mr Hutchings talked us through what he would look for in bulls and heifers and then we all had a go at judging ourselves with varying results!
